Prince Philip’s brilliant response when asked if he watched The Crown… but star Matt Smith claims the Queen DOES watch hit show

Other actors in the crown have also suggested Her Majesty is a fan of the series

PRINCE Philip snapped "ridiculous" when a dinner party guest asked if he watches The Crown, according to the show's star Matt Smith.

Despite the outspoken Duke of Edinburgh dismissing the rumours, The Queen is understood to be a fan of the hit Netflix drama about the Royal Family.

Former Doctor Who star Matt Smith played Phillip in the first two seasons of the show.

According to the Mirror, he said: “A friend had dinner next to him and asked him if he’d watched The Crown.

“He turned around to him and went, ‘Don’t be ridiculous’.

“Apparently the Queen has but we don’t know. I’m pretty sure some [royals] have.”

In seasons one and two the show suggests Philips's marriage to the Queen was rocked by his rumoured bedhopping.

Another member of the cast previously claimed Her Majesty watches the series.

Vanessa Kirby, who had played Princess Margaret, said a friend overheard Princess Eugenie saying her grandmother enjoyed the show.

In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar magazine, Kirby, 30, said: “A friend of mine was at a party and didn’t know anyone, so he sidled up to this group who were talking about The Crown.

“One girl said, ‘Well, my granny watches it and really likes it’.

“It slowly dawned on him that the girl was Eugenie and her granny was the Queen.”

Asked what questions he would have for Philip, Matt Smith added: “I wouldn’t ask him if he’d watched The Crown!"

Of the infidelity claims, he said: “[The Crown] creator Peter Morgan is adamant they’re common knowledge but I never really know. I made a choice about it when we made the show.”

The third series, with Tobias Menzies as an older Philip, is out next year.
