Heart-warming moment Iceland worker puts his coat on dog left outside store in heavy rain

Luke Carlin, 19, became a hero on Facebook after footage of him protecting the pooch outside the store in Belfast went viral

AN ICELAND employee was filmed placing his jacket over a dog who had been left tied up outside a store in Belfast.

The small dog had been left outside by its owner but when it began pouring with rain Luke Carlin, a 19-year-old Iceland worker, took pity and covered it with his jacket.

The heart-warming moment was filmed by an onlooker from inside their car and the video has now been viewed 2.6million times on Facebook.

In the clip, filmed from a car parked outside the Finaghy Iceland, a small, grey, hairy dog looks miserable as it’s tied to a post outside in the rain.

Luke can be seen walking out of the Iceland store, fleece in hand, before he gently places it on top of the dog and readjusts it to shelter the pup from the rain.

The teenager, from Belfast, told : “The owner was just nipping into the chemist then all of a sudden the rain started.

“Me and a girl who works with me saw the dog, so we agreed to put the jacket over it.

“Then shortly after another girl from my work brought the dog out of the rain.

“The reaction has been so crazy I thought it would have maybe peaked at a few hundred likes on the video when I first initially seen it.”

Stephen, who filmed the event, said: “It’s been crazy how fast it went viral and I didn’t expect it in anyway but I guess it shows how much people appreciate a genuine act of kindness no matter what it is!”

The original Facebook video shared by Stephen McIntosh has over 6,200 comments. One Facebook user, Ricky Mead commented: “Well done chap you are one of the better humans to roam this magnificent planet”.

Katie Alkaradi also commented in support of Luke, writing: “this is one of the kindest things I’ve ever seen”. While Savannah Chelsea commented, “not all heroes wear capes!!”

Since the moment went viral online, Iceland has awarded Luke Carlin and Lauren McCartan at the Finaghy store Northern Ireland Customer Service Awards and both received a voucher as a reward.

An Iceland spokesperson also said the dog was brought inside out of the rain until the owner returned.
