A Brit dad who paid £24,500 for speeding in a rented Lamborghini has been forced to stay in Dubai after the car hire company demanded he cough up an extra £10,500.

Farah Hashi, 25, racked up the eye-watering speeding ticket after borrowing a £270k Huracan supercar through friends while on holiday in the oil-rich Arab state.

Mr Hashi paid the hefty fine after reaching an agreement with police and the car rental agency, believing he could then return home to Newport, South Wales.

But despite Mr Hashi settling his fine with police, Saeed Ali Rent a Car is now seeking compensation for the 16-day period the car sat outside Mr Hashi's hotel, the posh Five Palm Jumeirah.

Mr Hashi, who is "mad about cars" has one leg shorter than the other usually drives a Vauxhall Corsa mobility car.

He was caught speeding 33 times in four hours at speeds of up to 150mph on Dubai's 347-mile-long Sheikh Zayed Road.

"The British tourist cannot leave the country until he pays the car rental agency about Dh50,000 (£10,500)," an official from the city's traffic police said.

Mohammed Ibrahim, 36, who runs Saeed Ali Rent a Car, told the UAE newspaper The National he will not let the outstanding amount go unpaid.

He said: "I lost money when the vehicle spent days parked in front of the hotel.

"He rented the car for three days and returned it after 16 days. Renting such a vehicle costs Dh3,500 [£740] per day.

"[Hashi] told me before that he would send me the money after returning to Britain. There is no guarantee that Hashi will send me [£10,500] if he goes back.

"I am taking legal measures to get this money. I told him about the speeding fines when he rented the car and not to drive faster than 120kph [74mph] on Sheikh Zayed Road."

Ibrahim also claims the canary yellow Lamborghini has since lost its appeal with customers.

"I have to change the colour of the car and the plate number," he said. "No one wants to drive this car!"

According to Farah Hashi's brother Adnan, 50, Farah was invited to Dubai by the owners of the car hire company to sample their super-fast sports cars.

He said: “Friends from Cardiff had invited him out to Dubai for a holiday and it is those people who owned the Lamborghini.

“They have a car showroom in Dubai and they asked Farah if he wanted to drive it.

“It is so corrupt. I don’t know how they can legally withhold his passport.

“They came to his hotel and demanded he hand it over after the speeding ticket came through, and out of fear he gave it to them."
