Residents outraged after lazy workmen paint double yellow lines on top of rubbish rather than pick it up

FURIOUS locals claim bone idle council workers painted yellow lines over squashed tin cans, plastic and other rubbish instead of picking it up.
Photos shared by outraged Northampton neighbours show the newly-painted lines on top of a variety of debris including cigarette packets and even soiled wet wipes.
It means the rubbish is 'glued' to the road, making it difficult to pick up and leaving patches in the paint when it is.
During the 'quiet' summer holiday period, highways teams have spent weeks re-surfacing roads in The Mounts area of Northampton.
But Niall Skinner, who works at The Lab cafe and pub, said "It's disgraceful to look at.
"Couldn't the workmen have called the borough council and said 'hey, we're painting the roads down here today, can you come and clean it first?' There's been no communication."
Other residents are now posing photos of the 'shoddy' workmanship online.
One said "Someone buy them a broom...my two-year-old could have done better lines."
Northamptonshire County Council, who are responsible for maintaining highways, has been contacted for a comment.
Earlier this year, a Government report called for Northamptonshire County Council to be broken up into two unitary authorities in light of its bad performance.
