UK'S LAZIEST COUNCIL WORKERS

Residents outraged after lazy workmen paint double yellow lines on top of rubbish rather than pick it up

Photos show the newly-painted lines on top of a variety of debris including cigarette packets and even soiled wet wipes

It means the rubbish is 'glued' to the road, making it difficult to pick up and leaving patches in the paint when it is.

During the 'quiet' summer holiday period, highways teams have spent weeks re-surfacing roads in The Mounts area of Northampton.

But Niall Skinner, who works at The Lab cafe and pub, said "It's disgraceful to look at.

"Couldn't the workmen have called the borough council and said 'hey, we're painting the roads down here today, can you come and clean it first?' There's been no communication."
