Mum, 43, jailed for grooming boy, 15, on Facebook as judge rules male and female sex offenders must be treated equally
Karen Robb from Blackpool, Lancs, was jailed for 16 months and has been given a restraining order preventing her from contacting her victim for a decade
A MUM was jailed today for grooming a 15-year-old boy on Facebook.
Karen Robb, 43, contacted the unnamed victim for several months with lewd messages and sent him a video of her naked on a bed touching her boobs, encouraging him to show his “private parts” in return.
The mum-of-one also met up with the boy having planned to do “naughty things” with him after the vulnerable youngster said he had fallen in love and told her “I would like to hold hands with you.”
Robb, from Blackpool, Lancs, was caught when her ex-partner suspected she was having an affair and reported the messages to the police.
She showed no emotion at Preston Crown Court as she was jailed for 16 months after admitting meeting a child following sexual grooming and engaging in sexual communication with a child.
Judge Heather Lloyd said male and female sex offenders must be treated equally under the law.
She said: “It may well be that as a rather naive teenager he started these conversations, but when that happened you as an adult mother should have taken him off your account or contacted his mother.
“You have denied deriving any sexual pleasure from this behaviour but I do not accept that.
“'There is no reason to treat a female sexual offender and a male sexual offender in any different ways. I am not satisfied that it is appropriate to suspend your sentence in this case."
Robb claims she was being violently abused by her ex-partner of 15 years at the time when the messages with the boy began, and that she was effectively homeless and staying in hostels.

Her former partner will no longer allow her to see her 11-year-old son, who has learning difficulties.
Defence lawyer John Woodward told the court that Robb was flattered by the attention from the victim at a difficult point in her life and that her “remorse is genuine”.
Robb was handed a sexual harm prevention order and a restraining order to prevent any contact with the victim that will last ten years in addition to her prison time.
