The astonishing scene was snapped at Tintagel Rocks near Tintagel Castle, Cornwall as a rising tide closed in on him on Sunday.

Eye witness James Pierce said: "At around 3.30pm I spotted a man in a red hoodie wandering around on the rocks opposite Tintagel Castle.

"At first I thought he'd just chanced his arm and gone for an exploration.

"But it soon became clear he was actually fishing instead.

"He spent a good two hours there even pausing for a short lie down before scrambling back up the cliff face to safer ground.

"He appeared at ease with his treacherous surroundings only leaving when I assume he felt the water level too high to ignore.

"He seemed perfectly comfortable but I kept my phone handy in case he fell."

Cornwall is well known for its fishing spots with the area around Tintagel Castle known for conger eels, dog fish, and pollack.

It is also an incredibly historic area with King Arthur said to be born in the castle according to a 1,300 year old inscription discovered earlier this year.
