It was claimed today the robber may have followed the victim, and rammed his car at a red light where he swooped for a bag of cash.

The two cars crashed on Mitcham Road in Croydon, South London, at lunchtime on Wednesday.

Paramedics found the driver in cardiac arrest and rushed him to hospital.

The other car had left the scene before police arrived.

Scotland Yard said someone got out of that car and stole cash from the seriously ill victim before making off.

It was unclear if the robber was the driver or a passenger in the second car.

The Met said: "Officers attended along with the the London Ambulance Service and found a man in his 60s in cardiac arrest.

"The other vehicle made off prior to police arrival.

"From initial enquiries it is believed that an occupant from the suspect vehicle approached the victim and removed cash from his car before making off.

"The incident is being treated as a robbery."

Police set up a forensics tent in the road and diverted traffic.

Today police said they had arrested a 29-year-old man on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery.
Det Sgt Matt Loftus said: “Although we’ve made one arrest, we are still keen to hear from any witnesses.

"I am appealing to anyone with dash-cam footage who attended the car park area between Toolstation and Screwfix off Purley Way on Wednesday morning or was driving around Lombard roundabout or Mitcham Road between 12pm and 1.30pm.
“Any information, no matter how small may be vital to the investigation.”

Earlier this week we told how a pair of muggers pushed over and robbed a 71-year-old woman and went on a spending spree with her bank card in Bromley, South East London.
