Bird watcher leaves ‘disappointing’ TripAdvisor review after failing to see herons at pub named Heron Inn

A TripAdvisor reviewer has moaned about the lack of herons at the Heron Inn in Truro but still called the food 'outstanding'

AN outraged diner has complained about the Heron Inn restaurant in Truro – but it didn’t have anything to do with the food or service.

Despite the historic pub winning gold in the Taste of the West awards a “reviewer” from Harlow, Essex, managed to find fault with the eaterie – its lack of herons - in what might be a not entirely serious review.

Writing on TripAdvisor the person had no complaint with the food which was considered “outstanding” but moaned about not seeing the birds.

They wrote: “Food was outstanding, however there was only one reason I came to this pub and that reason was not fulfilled. I DID NOT SEE ANY HERONS!

“I was really hoping to see herons everywhere but unfortunately there were absolutely none.

“The name of this pub should be changed to No Herons Inn. Do not come if your (sic) expecting to see a flock of beautiful birds. Other than that it was brilliant.”

Ultimately the commentator gave the pub four out of five stars.

According to , Fellow chef Nik Boyle told the Heron’s owner and chef Nick Hemming: “Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant – this is a great publicity tool. It’s also an idiot deterrent. This will ensure only clever people come to your fine establishment.”

Hemming told The Sun Online that it was “hard to tell” if the criticism was actually genuine.

He said: “We had a complaint headed ‘Disappointing’. It’s so ludicrous and slightly unfair.

“There’s a nest of herons across the estuary but we have no control over the environment.

“We can’t control the lack of water when the tide’s out.

“It’s bonkers. I was shocked and disappointed at first but now I just think it’s funny.”
