DONALD Trump splayed his legs in a trademark power pose as he discussed a crunch trade deal with his “friend” Theresa May, a body language expert revealed.
The President was sitting in his signature “Trump slump” to show off his “alpha confidence” while talking to the Prime Minister.
Trump and May met in New York for 30 minutes to discuss their “mutual desire to form a wide-ranging trade deal”.
The PM said a positive deal was in “both our interests” and No 10 said that Brexit provides a “wonderful opportunity” to strike a “big and ambitious UK-US Free Trade Agreement”.
And body language expert Judi James suggested that the May flashed “smiles of approval” as the pair posed on chairs before their highly-anticipated meeting.
However, she added that May sat with her hands “clenched tight” which suggested she was feeling impatient and wanted their talks to begin.
Judi told The Sun Online: “Donald Trump sat in his signature 'Trump slump' pose with his knees splayed to suggest alpha confidence and his hands in the downward steeple power gesture.
“He did become quite animated at times though and when he looked across at May she flashed him smiles of what looked like approval.
“She sat with knees and hands clenched tight but with her thumbs rubbing together in a gesture that almost resembled the sharpening of two small knives, suggesting impatience to get on with the discussion.”
On Wednesday, Trump referred to Mrs May as a "friend" and said she is "working very hard and doing a very, very good job".
Speaking to reporters before the meeting she insisted a post-Brexit US free trade deal would be possible - and said Brits could trust President Trump's offer of a bumper trade deal because of his record on taking action against Russia post-Salisbury at her request earlier this year.
The PM said: “First of all I would point to examples where I’ve had discussions with President Trump.
"When Salisbury happened I talked to President Trump about the actions we hoped the Americans would take. He said they’d take that action and they did exactly that.
“I’ve talked to him about the importance of Nato and he remains committed to Nato.
“In relation to a trade deal in the future, I would say that President Trump and America want to do a good trade deal with us.
"It’s in both our interests to do that good trade deal, and I believe that when we have negotiated that deal it will indeed be put in place.
"That’s what coming to an agreement on a trade deal is about – both sides agree and both sides do it.”
