THE highest profile Tory mayor in the country has urged the Government to “end austerity” and find cash for the police.

And he said the Home Office ‘settlement’ for the Midlands had been “less favourable” than for other areas.

“It’s not reasonable to expect that this continues,” he told the Birmingham Mail.

The blast comes just days before Theresa May and her Cabinet descend on Birmingham for the annual Conservative Party Conference.

Home Secretary Sajid Javid earlier this month publicly criticised the pay rise afforded to police officers by the PM – and said the police haven’t got the resources for the “challenges and complexities” they face.
