Tragic mum-of-two dies in horror smash on first day back at work after cancer treatment
Caroline Nelson, 45, died at the scene of a crash on the A818 at Daligan on Monday
TRIBUTES have been paid after a mum-of-two died in a horror smash on her first day back at work after cancer treatment.
Special needs teacher Caroline Nelson, 45, passed away after being involved in a crash on the A818 at Daligan, Scotland, on Monday.
Her Vauxhall Meriva collided with a Volkswagen Tiguan as she travelled west.
Emergency services rushed to the scene but Caroline was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Volkswagen Tiguan, a 71-year-old man, and his 70-year-old female passenger, were rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.
Medical staff described their condition as serious but stable.
Caroline wrote at the start of last month: “Treatment begins this week. Gonna kick cancer’s butt."
But the tragic special needs teacher, who was married to Still Game actor Sandy Nelson, lost her life on her way to Parklands school in Helensburgh.
The former School of Art student was told by doctors she had cancer in June.
After splitting from Sandy, she wrote on Facebook on June 23: "I have cancer and I’m single again. Not sure which will shock you more!
“I have been diagnosed with low grade non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Blood tests are good so I’m not a high risk at the moment. About to have a bone marrow biopsy.
“If nothing in that I can get radiotherapy and begin treating it. If there is something in bone marrow, back to monitor with regular blood tests. This could be for months, years, decades then it’s chemo (not that my hippy dippyness wants that in my body).
“This is not a post for sympathy (any sad face emojis will get a right telling off… I’m not dead yet) but my moods and emotions have been strange and will continue to be until I get to a better place with this, so forgive me.”
