COPS in the Brit party capital of Magaluf have now banned monster pub crawls as they crack down on excessive drinking in a bid to clean up the resort.

Officials introduced a raft of strict laws and hefty fines to limit the riotous drinking sessions.

The rules state that a maximum of 20 guests can take part and the booze tours must only take place between 8pm and midnight.

Town hall chiefs in the resort on Majorca have already banned happy hours, cheap drink promotions and are cracking down on booze cruises in a bid to rid Magaluf of its drink-soaked image.

Footage taken last night shows a pack of hundreds of revellers head into town before staggering home hours later in the early morning.

Earlier this summer police broke up a pub brawl involving 90 Brits along the Punta Ballena strip.

A licence for the activity, the advertising being used and the route to be taken are all subject to prior clearance by the town hall.

The crawls are organised by local bars and hostels, that promise punters a wild night of drinking and dancing.

Two bars either didn't have the necessary licence or breached conditions of a licence. They have been fined £2,630 and £1,320.

The guides, of Irish nationality, did not display the required accreditation, for which they have been fined £660.

The pub crawl was for clients who had purchased tickets for £8.70 each.

Advertising referred to free shots all night, drinking games and showers of champagne, reported the Majorca Daily Bulletin.

The town hall's bylaws expressly prohibit publicity that incites drinking or activities which could violate public order.

Guides have to wear identification vests, have an employment contract and be accompanied by an accredited security guard. In addition, there has to be civil liability insurance and guides must have first-aid training.

Bars that host pub crawls need to have a risk-avoidance plan and special control over capacity.

Deputy mayor of security, Andreu Serra said the campaign to rid Magaluf of its seedy image centred around the slogan “It’s also your responsibility” and is stressing the need for “everyone to work together”.

He added: “We must reduce the tourism of excesses and drunkenness.”

The new rules also ask all-inclusive hotels not to allow guests to go out with food or drink from the establishments unless it is for an excursion.

The banned advertising of happy hours or offers extends to all formats, including the social network and aerial messages.

There is also a new list of 16 sanctions which have doubled, trebled or multiplied four-fold in terms of fines, again to cut out “uncivic behaviour”.

This includes nudism or semi-nudism in unauthorised places.
