Thousands turned out in Sydney to get a glimpse of the couple before the future parents were whisked to a reception at Admiralty House.

Speaking to the crowd gathered at the reception, Prince Harry, 34, said: "We're both absolutely delighted to be here and really impressed to see people serving beer and tea at an afternoon reception in true Aussie style.

"Genuinely, thank you for the incredibly warm welcome and a chance to meet so many Aussies from all walks of life."

But the seasoned public speaker appeared to let the nerves get the best of him as he added: "And we genuinely couldn't think of a better place to announce er.. the.. upcoming baby.. be it a boy or girl."
