Brit MEPs to get golden handshake pay offs of at least £45k each after Brexit
BRITISH MEPs are set to rake in golden handshake pay offs of at least £45,000 each when they lose their jobs after Brexit.
Our euro MPs will receive generous “transitional allowances” in March to cushion the blow of forgoing their bumper £90,000 a year salaries.
All UK representatives will get a basic rate of at least six months’ pay, with senior ones pocketing upwards of £100,000.
On top of that, MEPs get a £6,000 lump sum to cover the cost of shutting down their offices and have their transport back home to the UK paid for.
The total bill for golden handshakes has been estimated at around £5.3 million, with British taxpayers picking up part of the tab.
The revelations emerged after a meeting at the EU Parliament in Strasbourg on Tuesday where eurocrats debriefed departing Brits on their severance pay.
All MEPs who have served more than a year will receive a payout equivalent to one month’s salary for every year they have served.
That means former Ukip leader Nigel Farage, who has been MEP for the South East for 20 years, is set to receive around £150,000.

Meanwhile the most recent intake from 2014, who have served just four years, will still be entitled to a minimum of six months of their salary.
Those over the age of 63 immediately start claiming their EU pension, which is worth 16.3% of their monthly salary, instead of taking transition cash.
According to a note seen by The Sun, euro MPs are also entitled to “reimbursement of two-thirds of the costs incurred as a result of sickness, pregnancy or the birth of a child”.
