When will the new £50 note be released and who will feature on it?
There's no final date on the new bill's release, but the Bank of England have announced that we won't be seeing them before 2020.
A new bank note and a new opportunity for the British public to decide who gets their mug slapped across its front.
Here’s what you need to know about the new £50 bill being brought out by the Bank of England.
When will the new £50 note be released?
There’s no final date on the new bill’s release, but the Bank of England have announced that we won’t be seeing it before 2020.
The new version will be made of plastic rather than paper, like the current £5 and £10, and it will come in some time after the new plastic £20 note.
The Sun revealed last month that Treasury bosses had decided to save the note after considering scrapping it due to money-laundering concerns.
Who will feature on it?
On November 2 the Bank of England announced it will celebrate a past figure from the world of science.
Stephen Hawking is a crowd favourite, but there is also pressure to feature an eminent female scientist.
All Brits can nominate a candidate to feature – as long as the candidate is both a scientist and dead.
Tradition dictates that the only living person who can be shown on a banknote is the Queen.
Hawking, who died this year, is likely to be in the running as an inspirational figure who revolutionised physics.
Experts have also proposed a number of female scientists including Ada Lovelace, who helped invent the computer, and Rosalind Franklin, one of the discoverers of DNA.
These two spectacular ladies are currently the two favourites with bookies Ladbrokes.
Members of the public can until December 14.
