BOMB scares have led to the evacuation of main stations in the Spanish capital as well as Barcelona.
Passengers at the busy Atocha station in Madrid and Barcelona Sants station were ordered out after suspicious devices were found.
By 10.20am (9.20am GMT) police confirmed both stations were reopened after the devices were found not to be bombs.
The high-speed AVE train service had been halted and travellers prevented from accessing the area at Barcelona’s Sants Station at 8am this morning.
Regional Mossos d’Esquadra police said a bomb like object was found in a suitcase on a scanner.
Two trains were then evacuated and a bomb disposal experts alerted. But it turned out to be a buckle of a belt.
High-speed trains to France leave from the station as well as destinations in Spain including the Costa Blanca.
It is unclear what sparked the bomb scare alert in Madrid but it was declared a false alarm shortly after 10am local time.
