Labour MP Kate Osamor resigns from Shadow Cabinet ‘to support her family’ amid row over drug dealer son
LABOUR MP Kate Osamor has resigned from the shadow cabinet after reportedly throwing water at a journalist amid a row over her convicted drug dealer son.
The former Shadow Development Secretary, 50, issued her resignation statement on Twitter saying she has left in order to support her family "through a difficult time."
Osamor, who has been the MP for Edmonton since 2015, was facing a formal probe by Commons’ bosses over refusing to sack her son Ishmael from her parliamentary office.
Ishmael, 29, was caught with £2,500-worth of MDMA, cocaine, ketamine and cannabis at last year's Bestival festival.
He was sentenced to 200 hours of unpaid work after a court heard he planned to pass the drugs to people he knew.
The party had claimed that the MP knew nothing about her son's case until after the sentencing last month following his guilty plea in September.
However, it has since emerged that Osamor had written to the trial judge asking for leniency for her son, reports .
Last night, the former shadow cabinet minister reportedly “threw a bucket of water” at a Times journalist who asked her for a response to their report.
According to the newspaper, the MP said she "should have come down here with a bat and smashed your face in".
She then reportedly told the journalist "f*** off", threw water at him and called the cops accusing him of stalking her.

The revelation that the MP knew about her son's court case before the sentencing was a result of a legal application by The Times and other news outlets.
Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said he accepted her resignation and praised her saying "she brought a new dimension" to the shadow cabinet post.
He added: "I know Kate will take this time to support her family, work for her constituents and support our party’s efforts to rebuild Britain from the backbenches."
