Theresa May today tells cops to keep on ramming moped thugs - saying it’s “absolutely right” to tackle the crime.
The PM told the Sun on Sunday she was backing Sajid Javid to the hilt in his war on gangs.
And she slapped down Diane Abbott’s claims that the new police tactic was “very dangerous."
Speaking at the G20 in Argentina, the PM said: “Moped crime has been an issue for some time.
“And I think it’s absolutely right that as these people are acting unlawfully – they are committing crimes - that we see a robust police response to that.”
Home Secretary Sajid Javid last week joined police chiefs from across the country in taking Ms Abbott to task after she moaned that cops were acting as though they were “above the law”
Scotland Yard had released footage of officers ramming fleeing moped thugs, sending them sprawling over car bonnets or onto the pavement.
It follows an explosion in gangs using mopeds and scooters to terrorise the public – notably in London.
Officers from Camden – one of the London boroughs with the highest rates of moped enabled crime said it defied belief Diane Abbott wasn’t aware it was perfectly legal to use “tactical contact to terminate dangerous pursuits."
