She earns a salary of £77,379 on top of expenses and he earns up to £43,835 working as her chief of staff.

But on Christmas Eve, she tweeted: "I will always remember that nearly 30yrs ago I was a homeless single mum who secured a tenancy to my home.

"Everyone deserves a home for life. I remain proud, not ashamed, to be in social housing."

Her post was shared thousands of times, and liked almost 10,000 times, with many Twitter users slamming her for taking a social housing space when others are in genuine need.

One tweeter said: "So everyone in social housing who can afford to buy their own should stay in social housing thus depriving those in real need of a home. I don't think so...."

Another added: "A fairer Britain where someone with £130,000 a year household income gets to stay in a council house that’s designed for those on low income? That kind of fair?"

Ishmael, 29, was caught with £2,500-worth of MDMA, cocaine, ketamine and cannabis at last year's Bestival festival.

Osamor, who has been the MP for Edmonton since 2015, was facing a formal probe by Commons’ bosses over refusing to sack her son Ishmael from her parliamentary office.

The party had claimed that the MP knew nothing about her son's case until after the sentencing last month following his guilty plea in September.

But she resigned from the shadow cabinet after reportedly throwing water at a journalist amid a row over Ishmael.

Ms Osamor said she left in order to support her family "through a difficult time."
