Did Harry and Meghan Markle know their baby's gender?

A baby's gender can be determined around 18 to 21 weeks into the pregnancy when tests are carried out to detect any abnormalities in the child.

On May 6 at 5.26am, gave birth to her first child - and it's a boy.

The couple chose not to find out the sex of the baby and having a son was a surprise.

Their baby was born weighing 7lbs 3oz and he came into this world happy and healthy.

What did Harry and Meghan name their son?

On May 8, the royal couple announced they had named their son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

The name was a surprise to everyone, as it wasn't on any of the lists of predicted names.

Archie won't carry an HRH title and will simply be 'Master'.

 

Where did Meghan Markle give birth to the royal baby?

After announcing the birth of their baby, Prince Harry made a statement outside their home, Frogmore Cottage - suggesting she had a home birth.

The Duchess of Sussex insisted she wanted a “normal, natural” birth.

Meghan was believed to be eyeing up the maternity unit at the NHS-run hospital at Frimley Park as it could be closer to their new Windsor pad.

But it's since been reported that Meghan gave birth at the private Portland Hospital in central London.

It is understood Meghan remained there overnight on Sunday before going into labour in the early hours of Monday morning.

Her sister-in-law Kate enjoyed a five-star birthing experience at the Lindo wing.

How did Kensington Palace announce the pregnancy news?

Kensington Palace announced the news on its official Twitter page.

The message read: "Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the spring of 2019.

"Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public."

Meghan Markle’s mum Doria Ragland then released a statement through Kensington Palace saying she was "very happy" and "looking forward to welcoming her first grandchild".

When asked if Meghan's dad Thomas had been made aware of the news the Palace responded with ";no comment."
