Theresa May calls on speedboat fugitive killer Jack Shepherd to ‘give up and face justice’

The web designer, 31, fled the country after Charlotte Brown, 24, died when he drunkenly flipped a speedboat on the River Thames in 2015

THERESA May yesterday called for fugitive speedboat killer Jack Shepherd to hand himself in.

She urged Shepherd — who fled before his manslaughter trial after his boat flipped, killing his date — to give up and “face justice”.

The PM also offered her sympathy to the family of his victim, 24-year-old Charlotte Brown, describing her death as “shocking”.

Mrs May’s intervention in response to a question on the hunt for Shepherd will pile pressure on police searching for him.

She said officials were looking at the controversial decision to grant him legal aid for an appeal despite being on the run.

The web designer, 31, met Charlotte via a dating site and they dined at London’s Shard skyscraper before he drunkenly crashed the boat on the River Thames in 2015.

He later skipped bail and was given a six-year sentence when an Old Bailey jury found him guilty in his absence last year.

Scotland Yard last night said new clues were being investigated in the search for Shepherd, who may be in Spain.

The family of Charlotte, from Clacton, Essex, are campaigning for tougher laws and more safety measures for privately rented boats.
