Prince Philip could face £36,000 insurance premium after crashing Land Rover due to age

The fiercely independent 97-year-old appears to be determined to drive despite Thursday's collision with a Kia carrying a 45-year-old Gran, her daughter, 28, and the younger woman’s nine-month-old son

PRINCE Philip can expect an insurance premium as high as £36,000 when he comes to renew his policy, according to an estimate.

Using price comparison site Confused.com, just two insurers out of more than 100 searched by the webpage came back with quotes.

One from Insure Wiser was £9940 with a £1000 excess and Quotelinedirect offered a policy of £36,499.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s date of birth and London address was used in the quote as well as details of Thursday's smash – with an estimate on damage of £90,000 — and was based on him driving a high-spec Land Rover.

It comes after the irrepressible 97-year-old Duke of Edinburgh has been spotted today back behind the wheel just two days after his horror car crash.

Wearing black shades but not his seat belt, he was seen driving his new black Land Rover Freelander, which was delivered to the Sandringham estate yesterday.

The 97-year-old, who was not injured in the crash, was seen driving the replacement car into the main entrance gate to Sandringham at about 2.15pm.

He was taking top of the range 4x4 Discovery, costing £68,000, for a spin after it was delivered yesterday to replace the other.

Less than 48 hours after his car was towed away following a car crash near the estate.

The Duke was heard groaning “I’m a fool” after the collision with a Kia carrying a 45-year-old Gran, her daughter, 28, and the younger woman’s nine-month-old son.
