A FUGITIVE who is the double of EastEnders actor Dean Gaffney is wanted by police after failing to turn up for his trial.
Tony Owens, 37, is accused of causing the death of a pensioner in a crash on the M42 motorway.
A judge issued an arrest warrant after he failed to appear for the start of his trial at Warwick crown court earlier this month.
Police put out a Facebook appeal with a mugshot of Owens to help find him.
The post has had hundreds of shares by users who remarked on his likeness to Albert Square road sweeper Robbie Jackson.
Owens was arrested in August 2017 after handing himself in at a police station in Birmingham.
He was suspected of being at the wheel of a Peugeot 307 involved in a crash with a Vauxhall Agila near Tamworth services.
Ex-soldier Raymond Goode, 84, died at the scene and his hairdresser wife Jane, 74, was seriously injured.
The Coventry pensioners had retired to Spain in 2005 and were back for a visit.
ARREST WARRANT
Owens was charged last March with causing death by dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene and driving without licence or insurance.
His trial was due to begin on January 7, .
Warwickshire Police issued an appeal last Friday with a photo of Owens wearing an England football shirt.
The force said: "Officers searching for a wanted man are appealing for help from the public to locate him.
"Tony Stephen Owens failed to appear at Warwick crown court for a trial in January and a warrant has since been issued for his arrest. Enquiries are ongoing to locate him.
"The 37-year-old is described as being of slim build, around 5ft 6in tall, with tattoos on his arms and his eyebrow pierced.
"He is thought to have connections to the Ashby-de-la-Zouch area of Leicestershire and the West Midlands.
"Anyone who has seen Tony or knows of his whereabouts is asked to call Warwickshire Police on 101."
