Snow school closures today – How to find out if winter weather is shutting YOUR child’s classroom as Dorset, Devon, Hampshire and Cornwall affected
Hundreds of schools across the UK are shutting up shop due to the heavy snow
AS snow continues to fall across the UK, hundreds of schools are unable to cope with the extreme weather.
But is your child's school closed and how do they decide whether to shut? Here's what we know.
Where are schools closing?
With four inches of snow forecast overnight, many schools will be closing their doors.
A majority of schools closed on Thursday are based in Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Liverpool.
Schools were also shut in North Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent as the snow continues to hammer down.
There have been hundreds of closures in North Wales, including in Flintshire, Wrexham and Gwynedd.
Just insert your postcode of your child's school into the search bar and the website will let you know its closure status.
Why do schools close when it snows?
One reason is due to the school's heating needing to reach a minimum of 18C.
If it is too cold outside and the school classrooms can't retain that temperature, the school will be forced to close.
