Pancake Day 2019 – when is it, what recipes are there and is it the same as Shrove Tuesday?
PANCAKE Tuesday is TODAY and fans of the breakfast treat don't have to wait anymore.
But what is Pancake Day, is it the same as Shrove Tuesday and what recipes are there?
When is Pancake Tuesday?
The highly-anticipated day usually falls at the end of February.
But this year Pancake Day is TODAY, March 5.
Lent - the 40-day period of religious fasting - begins TOMORROW on Ash Wednesday, March 6.
The custom on the much-celebrated midweek occasion is to cook pancakes as it uses ingredients you're likely to have leftover in your cupboard before fasting.
What was the Twitter confusion?
Widespread confusion caused by the later date of Easter Sunday this year left people disappointed last week - waking up with frying pans at the ready only to find out they had got the wrong day.
Twitter was awash with people demanding answers and one even said they're "going to cry".
Confused Marcus wrote: "Dunno if im being stupid but since when was pancake day in march???"
And an expectant Paul said: "It must be Pancake Day today surely ? Or did I miss it in the end?"

Is it the same as Shrove Tuesday?
Shrove Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday - which marks the start of Lent.
Lent is the six week period leading up to Easter Sunday.
The actual length is 46 days – however, 40 of these are fasting days and six are Sundays.
These six days in Lent are not counted in the forty days because each Sunday represents a "mini-Easter".
The period of Lent is seen as a time of solemn observance and preparation for the celebration of the death and resurrection of Jesus.
Shrove Tuesday is also known as Pancake Tuesday.
It is always the day BEFORE Ash Wednesday, despite the date changing each year.
How do I make pancakes?
Thankfully, pancakes are pretty easy to make - all you need is 100g flour, two large eggs, 300ml milk and one table spoon of sunflower oil.
In order to make the batter, whisk all the ingredients together until you're left with a smooth mixture.
Then, set a frying pan on medium heat. When it's hot, pour in enough batter to make a pancake and fry for around one minute on each side until golden.
When ready, serve with lemon and caster sugar, or whatever your preferred topping may be.
