Joss Stone performs bizarre gig in war-torn Syria to 70 fans

JOSS Stone has performed a bizarre gig in war-torn Syria in front of 70 people.

The British star, 31, who sang barefoot, said she "is glad nothing bad happened" after crossing the border into troubled country.

Grammy winner Joss is aiming to sing in every country on the planet as part of her Total World Tour.

The Kent-born star performed at 11am for 70 people at a small hall in Derik, in the north-eastern corner of Syria, according to the .

She described the area as a "very small section of Syria where people come to be safe."

Joss was reportedly joined by photographer Paul Conroy on his first trip back to the country since he was wounded in the 2012 rocket strike that killed war reporter Marie Colvin.

According to the Mail, her audience included around two dozen uniformed foreign soldiers who are fighting alongside Kurdish militia.

She says she has performed in 174 countries so far on her ambitious tour but "that was unique."

The You Had Me hitmaker shared a video on Instagram after arriving in Syria showing her wrapped in a blanket in her hotel bathroom.

She said it was "bloody cold", but added she was "just so glad nothing bad happened".

Joss captioned the video: "We made it into #syria#kurdistan it was a little scary crossing the border as of course we have absolutely no idea what might transpire, we just have to trust the people on the ground that are advising us and looking after us.

"This was the beginning, it was cold and wet but also so nice to meet such welcoming kind people. #syria deserves not to be ignored #kurdistan deserves not to be ignored.

"There is a lot of hurt here coming from all sorts of different directions.”

The singer also said she “heard that ISIS surrendered yesterday.”

She added: “…but that doesn't mean it's all over for the Syrian people or the Kurdish people, it is so complicated, a story I'm not in a position to tell you but all I can say is that I have learnt a lot from my short time there and I hope that peace will come to every one on all sides soon. #totalworldtour".

US President Donald Trump also proclaimed this week that ISIS had lost “100 percent” of their land in the country.

However, according to a US military assessment, ISIS fighters are still hunkered down in a small sliver of land in north-east Syria near the Euphrates River along with civilian residents.

Officials say military operations have paused in order to separate the non-extremist locals from the militants in the area.
