SHAMIMA Begum will have to pay as much as £40,000 if she wants to sneak back into Britain, a terror expert has claimed.

The ISIS bride - who was stripped of her UK citizenship last month - is stuck in Syria four years after running off to join the terror group.

She wed a Dutch-born jihadi in 2015 after leaving her East London home with two school friends headed to war-torn Syria.

But Begum, 19, fled the al-Hol refugee camp last week with her newborn son after a price was put on their heads for speaking out about her time with ISIS.

The teen is now begging for a safe return to the UK - after insisting she deserves "sympathy".

But Home Secretary Sajid Javid revoked her British citizenship in a move that could be challenged in courts.

SMUGGLERS' FEES

As her options run out, smugglers now present possibly her only means of getting back into Britain.

But even then, she would face having to pay staggering fees to criminal gangs - meaning she is all but trapped, a former Turkish counter-terror police chief said.

Ahmet S. Yayla, now Assistant Professor at DeSales University, told the : "Under normal circumstances, (ISIS jihadis) would easily travel back to Turkey by bribing Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) members and working with the smugglers.

“But through recent circumstances, smuggling fees – particularly for the Western members – have increased dramatically.

“Now they are charging up to $50,000 (£38,000) - in the past it was around 200.

“I don’t think all of those members have the means to pay around $50,000 per family or per member for smugglers to get them out of conflict zones.”

'LIMITED OPTIONS'

Prices on the black market for people smuggling rocketed as ISIS' hold on the region collapsed at the end of 2017.

Now, as the last pockets of hardline jihadis are wiped out, smugglers are asking for even more.

Dr Yayla added: “If they are still in the area by now they know it is foolish for them to try and run away because they are surrounded.

“At this point options are very limited compared to six months or a year ago.”

Even if Begum does make it back to the UK, the government is drawing up a Treason Act to jail traitors who have betrayed Britain.

The Home Secretary has tasked officials to work on the major new criminal offence to close down current legal loopholes.

Begum's Dutch husband Yago Riedijk, 23, wants her and their son Jerah to be allowed to live with him in the Netherlands.

But Dutch officials confirmed she would not be allowed entry - and they would not help him get back.

He would also be jailed for six years after being convicted in his absence of terror offences.
