Student stung by SCORPION while sitting in plane seat leaving her in total agony

Air Transat said it had no idea how the creature got on its plane in Canada

A PLANE passenger was stung by a four-inch scorpion after it escaped in the cabin and crawled down her back.

Student Quin Maltais said she felt a tickling sensation followed by a "piercing pain" as she was nipped by the venomous critter.

She leapt to her feet and found the scorpion crawling into the fold of the seat on the Air Transat jet in Canada.

Quin how she started to feel a fluttering motion on her lower back near the end of a four-hour flight from Toronto to Calgary.

She : "I just kind of ignored it.

"As soon as the lights turned off, closer to when we're literally about to land, I felt the piercing pain on my lower back, like, oh, my God, something bit me."

She said she was "freaking out", trying to grab her jumper, but couldn't take off her seatbelt to see what it was.

Quin added: "The lights turned on, I looked into the ball of bundled sweater that I had but nothing was there.

"I looked behind me on the seat and then I saw movement and there was a scorpion that was in the fold toward the back of the chair.

"It was on my back for the past 30 minutes. It was like four inches maybe."

She claims a stewardess initially tried to claim what she felt was a only gum wrapper - but then she checked again and spotted the scorpion between the seats.

Paramedics escorted Quin off the plane when it landed at 10.30pm on February 26.

She said: "I had a full-fledged panic attack. Paramedics had to kind of keep me strapped to a heart monitor for a while cause I was just unable to calm down.";

Transat said the scorpion was captured once all passengers had got off the plane.

The airline said it did not know how it got there. Staff handed it to authorities.

A spokesman told CBC: "Although this is an extremely rare situation, it can unfortunately occur.

"Our teams followed the protocols in place and a complete inspection of the aircraft, as well as an extermination process, were carried out."

Scorpions pack a powerful sting in their tails, but most species are not dangerous to humans.

Last month a terrifying video showed a fearsome 12-inch scorpion crawling on overhead lockers on a Lion Air jet bound for Jakarta.

And in 2017 a scorpion fell on a passenger's head and stung his hand on a United Airlines flight from Mexico to Calgary.
