Single mum-to-be, 26, ‘dies trying to deliver her own baby after watching a ‘how-to’ YouTube video’

AN EXPECTING mum and her baby boy have reportedly died in India after she followed a how-to child delivery YouTube video.
The 25-year-old single mother was found dead after another resident reported “blood flowing from her room" in the city of Gorakhpur, according to police.
According to the , which cites the chief of police Ravi Rai, a possible reason behind her self-delivery attempt was “fear of social stigma attached to being an unmarried mother”.
Mr Rai said: “Her landlord Ravi Upadhyay broke open the door and found the woman and a newborn baby boy lying dead.
“He immediately informed the police, who reached the site and sent the body for post-mortem.
"Her smart phone revealed that she was watching ‘how to deliver baby by self’ and other similar safe delivery processes on YouTube."
Scissors, a blade and some thread were found near the woman’s body, he said.
It is understood the dead mum had taken the room on rent just four days ago.
Her relatives were informed about the incident, who confirmed that she was unmarried.

Her landlord said: “The woman approached me just four days back and told me that her mother would be coming soon to assist her in delivery in hospital.
"After verifying her details through Aadhaar card, I rented the room to her.”
It is unclear why the woman rented the accommodation in Gorakhpur as her family members did not reveal why.
