DETECTIVES searching for missing student Libby Squire who vanished six weeks ago have recovered a body.
An RNLI lifeboat recovered the human remains from Grimsby Docks on the Humber Estuary yesterday afternoon.
The quayside was cordoned off and the coroner was informed.
Officers contacted Libby’s parents Lisa, 48, and Russ, 53, but said it was “too early” to determine identification, or even gender.
A police source said: “The body is decomposed.
“Tests will be carried out overnight to determine the identity of the person.
“It is too early to say if it is Libby or not. Her family have been notified by specialist family liaison officers as a matter of course.”
Humberside Police are conducting two other missing persons probes in addition to that of Hull University student Libby, 21.
A post-mortem will be carried out in the next 24 hours to positively identify the body and find a cause of death.
Locals close to Grimsby Docks where the body was recovered from said three police vans, two patrol cars and an unmarked police car attended the scene.
BODY FOUND IN HUMBER ESTUARY
Philosophy and religion student Libby went missing from a park bench just yards from her student digs after a night out on January 31.
She has not been seen since.
Libby vanished after she was turned away from the Welly nightclub in Hull for being too drunk.
She was put in a taxi by friends and driven home to Wellesley Avenue nearby.
But after staggering around she mysteriously ended up sitting on a park bench on nearby Beverley Road at 11.45pm.
CCTV footage taken minutes later at 12.09am shows a woman believed to be Libby getting into a car and being driven away.
A second clip obtained by The Sun, shows a similar car being driven half a mile away ten minutes later at 12.19am.
A woman living close to where Libby was last seen described hearing "bloodcurdling screams" at 12.30am.
They were so terrifying they made the woman sit up in bed and say: "Oh my God."
Cops launched a massive hunt and searched a river and pond close to her home. Bins, drains and gardens were also swept but without trace.
