Shoppers stunned as travellers in dressing gowns pitch caravans at Tesco car park near Wembley
Young women were seen smoking and pushing babies and youngsters around in buggies and shopping trolleys
SHOPPERS nipping into their local Tesco were left stunned as a group of travellers in dressing gowns walked their kids round the car park this morning.
The group pitched their caravans at the supermarket near Wembley, north London, and seemed unconcerned about mingling with customers while in their pyjamas.
Around 12 caravans, vans and mobile homes were scattered over parking spaces at the store, less than a mile from Wembley Stadium.
Young women were seen smoking and pushing babies and youngsters around in buggies and shopping trolleys.
Tesco was open as usual, as customers moved around the mass of cars and caravans in the car park.
The local council is said to be aware, but it was unclear if action is being taken.
The Sun Online has attempted to contact Tesco for comment, and Brent Council confirmed as it is on private land is is "a matter for the landowner and the police".
The Met Police confirmed they are not involved.
The supermarket is less than half a mile from a 32-pitch travellers' site run by Brent Council.
It took back control of the site last year and promised a £500,000 program of upgrades and improvements.
POLICE RAID
In November the site was raided by large numbers of police officers in riot gear, who arrived in 20 vans.
A gun, £20,000 in cash and Class A drugs were seized and five people were arrested.
Resident families complained saying their tactics were heavy-handed.
There is no suggestion the families at the Tesco Extra are connected to those living in the nearby site.
A worker at the retail park said the group left the car park this afternoon, .
REOCCURRING ISSUE
It comes days after another Tesco, in New Malden in south west London, was closed down after a number of travellers pitched up in the car park.
Cops were called over concerns damage might be caused.
Travellers who set up unauthorised camps could be jailed for the first time under radical plans unveiled by ministers last month.
Currently they can only be dealt with through trespassing laws, which are a civil matter.
But Home Secretary Sajid Javid has now launched a review that will consider making it a criminal offence to set up illegal camps.

The dad, from Oxford, said his pals went to set up a game of pool while he walked to the bar to order three glasses of Coke.
