A TEEN who claims he is missing Timmothy Pitzen was found by cops after a woman thought he was trying to steal her neighbour's car.
The youngster - who said he ran away from kidnappers after eight years - was "fidgety" and looked like he'd been punched in the face, witnesses said.
Residents called cops after they spotted him lurking in their residential street at 7.30am yesterday in Newport, Kentucky.
Sharon Hall took a picture of the hooded youth because she feared he might be a criminal.
She told CNN: "That a boy was leaning against one of my neighbour's cars, so I called her and told her there was a boy I thought was going to rob her car."
The lad told the neighbour he had been running for two hours and his stomach hurt.
Sharon told another station, WKRC TV: "He said that he was tired and he’s been passed around and he’s lost and that he’s from Aurora, Illinois."
When police came they pulled back his hood and she could see the left side of his face was very badly bruised as if scraped on concrete.
Another resident, Fray Knight, said: “It’s like he wanted help. He did, but he didn’t know who to trust to get that help - that’s how he looked.
"He was pretty much scared of everybody. Even the police had to get him up to the car, because he wouldn’t stand still."
The boy told police his name was Timmothy Pitzen and gave the same date of birth as the six-year-old who vanished 330 miles away in Illinois in May 2011.
His mum had mysteriously taken him out of school, killed herself and left a note warning: "You'll never find him."
Timmothy's family, who never gave up hope he would be found, are anxiously awaiting DNA results that should prove it the boy is him.
Maternal grandmother Alana Anderson said: "We don't want to get our hopes up. We've had false reports and false hopes before.
"I'm cautiously hopeful, very cautiously hopeful. And if it turns out to be him, we'll be thrilled."
Cops are hunting a pair of tattooed bodybuilder-type suspects the boy says were holding him at a budget Red Roof Inn motel in nearby Cincinnati, Ohio.
