WEIGHT TO GO

World’s fattest kid ‘much happier’ after losing 16 stone – despite horrendous excess skin

Arya Permana, from West Java, Indonesia, weighed more than 20 stone when he was only 13

THE child once known as the world's fattest kid has lost an incredible 16 stone leaving him with horrendous excess skin, but he insists he's happier.

Arya Permana, from Karawang, West Java, Indonesia weighed more than 30 stone when he was only 10 years old.

The 13 year old now weighs in at 13.5 stone and says he is happier despite the excess skin.

He told : “I am happier now. Because now I can play football, hang out with friends, play around, go to the river…”

“Back then I couldn’t do anything, [or] go anywhere, I couldn’t play football, before I couldn’t play badminton but now I can do it.”

When Permana was at his heaviest his diet included at least six packets of instant noodles every day, fizzy drinks and fried chicken.

He became so morbidly obese he was forced to bathe in an outdoor pool because he was too big to take a shower and he was home schooled because he would be out of breath after walking five metres.

Permana's parents tried to curb their son's dietary habits, but admit they struggled not to spoil him.

Ade Somantri, his father, told Barcroft TV: “Back in the day since Arya was five-years-old and already getting big I can say, ‘Yes I spoiled him’.

“If he wanted to eat or drink sweet food and drinks we just gave it, if he wanted instant noodles, we just cooked for him.”

The lad eventually underwent a gastric bypass surgery to help him lose weight.

In the first month, Permana lost five stone and the weight has continued to melt off.

The resulting weight loss left the boy with excessive skin - particularly on his chest and arms.

Permana struggled to eat a lot after the surgery and would even eat until he vomited, his father said.

However, now the teen eats a diet rich in fish, vegetables and fruit.

He also now walks one kilometre a day to school and he enjoys playing sports with his friends.
