US anchor Gayle King visited Meghan Markle at the weekend to wangle her way into the UK photocall
It is rumoured she used this to secure a spot for American network CBS to get the sought after footage and pictures of the new baby
US anchor Gayle King visited Meghan Markle and Prince Harry to wrangle her network's way into today's UK photocall, it has been claimed.
The broadcaster, a pal of Meghan's, reportedly spent time with the royal couple over the weekend, ahead of the birth of Baby Sussex.
It is rumoured she used the chance to secure a spot for American network CBS to get the sought after footage and pictures of the new baby.
The she got exclusive clips shot before the birth in a "royal special" and flew back to the UK before Meghan had the baby.
She posted on Instagram about her visit on Friday, writing: “Flying to the UK to shoot stuff for prime time Royal special… lots of time to listen to @ritawilsonnew music 'Halfway Home'”
It was originally thought only one camera from a British broadcaster, picked at random, would be allowed in to film the Duke and Duchess in St Georges Hall today.
But it was announced a CBS cameraman would also be included in the small press pack.
A source told the website the choice was made due to international interest in the story, but didn't elaborate on why CBS was picked.
They said: “It’s a decision that has taken everyone by surprise and has not gone down well in some quarters."
Meghan and Prince Harry beamed this afternoon as they introduced their "amazing" baby boy - but teased the world by not revealing his name just yet.
BABY SUSSEX REVEALED
The new parents appeared tired but ecstatic as they cradled the newborn, with giddy bearded dad Harry joking his son "already has facial hair".
A palace aide said of the choice to add in a CBS cameraman last night: "There is an international cameraman accredited to the pool facility tomorrow. CBS will provide the cameraman.
'This reflects the international interest in the story. The international camera spot was self-selected and the pictures will be available for pool use."
Meghan and Gayle have a reportedly close friendship - with the journalist attending the Duchess' New York baby shower.
The host previously spoke out about the shower that was held at the Mark Hotel, revealing the Duchess chose not to open her presents on the day.
Speaking on CBS This Morning she said: "[Meghan] didn't open any of the gifts because she wants to do that when she goes back to London, when she and Harry are back together.
"I don't know what everybody got. I think I got something I think is very nice. But you know, she's a very private person. I think she should decide what she wants to say about this."
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's low key announcement at Windsor Castle today is in stark contrast to Kate Middleton and Prince William's baby reveals that saw hundreds of photographers snap pictures of their three children hours after they were born.
Meghan had initially hoped to give birth at the couple's newly renovated home of Frogmore Cottage.
However, the new parents were forced to make a secret hospital dash to give birth to their 7lb 3oz baby boy at 5.26am.
Sources said the operation to get Meghan - who was a week overdue - to the clinic was so secret that even senior royals weren’t told.
