NIGEL Farage’s Brexit Party has overtaken the Tories in national polling for the first time, a shock survey shows.
It would likely pick up 49 seats in a general election.
The ComRes poll shows Labour would be the biggest party by a margin of 137 seats. The Tories would fall to third.
For the Euro elections on May 23, the Brexit Party rose to 34 per cent, with Labour on 21.
The Tories fell to fourth place on 11, behind the Lib Dems, the Opinium poll shows.
The survey also found nearly three-quarters would find staying in the EU as unacceptable.
Adam Drummond, head of political polling at Opinium said: “The fact that the Brexit Party that is less than six months old is now vying with the governing party for second place is remarkable.”
