British expat leapt to his death in Australia ‘while hallucinating on LSD and ketamine’
A BRITISH expat leapt to his death from the roof of an office block in Australia while hallucinating on LSD and ketamine, an inquest heard.
Aarron McKay, 27, plunged 50ft to the ground as police tried to talk him down on New Year’s Eve 2016 in Sydney.
Sales consultant Aarron of Helsby, Cheshire, had traces of the party drugs and cannabis in his body.
Aarron may have become “paranoid’’ at the sight of cops and “unable to appreciate he was at a height”, the inquest heard in Warrington, Cheshire.
PC Peter Hibbert said Aarron suddenly ran to the edge and jumped.
Coroner Alan Moore said: “The most likely explanation for his actions are the effects of hallucinogenic drugs.”
In a statement, Aarron’s heartbroken mum Julie Robinson said: “He was a high achiever and did well with his qualifications.
“In 2016 Aarron was supposed to return home for Christmas.
“However he had a new girlfriend and went to Bali with her instead.
“We stayed in contact all the time, he would write or call. The last time I spoke to him was on December 29th 2016. He was fine, he had his girlfriend and he was about to go into a new business venture and he looked forward to that.
“This has been a terrible time and I am still taking medication to cope with the devastating loss.
“I’ve found it hard to come to terms with losing Aarron and I still feel his presence around me which gives me comfort”.
Verdict: Misadventure.
