Violence breaks out at bell-ringing festival in one of Britain’s poshest villages
A BELL-ringing festival in a posh village church saw a right old ding-dong break out — with punches thrown in a row over parking.
A neighbour claimed a car had been left on his drive and tried to storm the bell tower to find the driver.
Onlookers said he was hauled out then hurled abuse, leaving kids in tears.
The local — named as Jeremy Brown, 62 — marched into St Peter’s Church in Noss Mayo, Devon, last Saturday.
Barrie Furzland, Captain of the Tower, said: “He was seriously angry and tried to climb up to the ringing chamber.
“Our group secretary tried to stop him. Other men stepped in. He had to be dragged out.” The man then sat on the floor “shouting abuse, complaining about the bells”.
Mr Furzland also denied his drive was blocked. He said: “Whilst he was ranting and raving, his relatives drove up the road and parked in his drive.”
The festival is held at a different church each year across South Devon. Last night ex-lecturer Mr Brown said: “They blocked the road and created a four-hour noise nuisance. It’s a disgrace.”
Mr Furzland added: “Clearly he didn’t like the bells, but what do you expect buying a house right by a church?”
