ESTHER McVey has today hinted Lorraine Kelly may be jealous of her political career.

The Prime Ministerial hopeful suggested their feud is down to the ITV presenter’s envy as she bids for Number 10.

On Monday, Kelly, 59, appeared to snub former colleague McVey, 51, during a handover from Good Morning Britain hosts Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid.

The public bust-up resurfaced on Wednesday when LBC radio presenter Iain Dale grilled McVey about the daytime TV star, who she worked with at ITV in the 1990s.

Dale said: "What on earth did you do to Lorraine Kelly?"

McVey replied: "I don’t know! I had a very fun time at GMTV."

'SHE CAN'T STAND YOU'

When asked why Kelly "can't stand" her, McVey added: "Who knows.

"Well, let me see. Well, I’ve gone off into politics and, you know, maybe she wants to go off into politics.

“Who knows?"

A clip showing Kelly’s cold shoulder of McVey went viral after Reid asked if the ITV star remembered McVey.

Reid said: “Do you remember Esther McVey from her GMTV days?"

Kelly replied: "Yep. Yes I do. Right, coming up after half past eight.."

Following Monday’s spat, McVey suggested the pair's frosty relationship was due to her being promoted to work with Eamonn Holmes.

McVey is currently locked in the Conservative Party’s leadership race.

But she co-presented GMTV with Holmes during her time at ITV, claiming she and Kelly shared a dressing room.

'EAMONN HOLMES LOVE WAR'

McVey said: “She used to be on the programme afterwards and obviously she used to be partnered with Eamonn Holmes and then I was promoted to be partnering with Eamonn Holmes.”

"But she's great and it was a great show, and I can't believe it was 20 years ago, but never mind, it was really good at the time, really good fun."

Kelly shot down claims the pair were locked in a "love war" over Holmes after speaking to Morgan and Reid again.

The ITV presenter then went on to cast doubt on McVey’s version of events.

Kelly said: “Well, who wouldn’t want to fight over Eamonn Holmes?

"There is no battle. I'm baffled, because I had my own show since 1992, and I don't actually think she joined until five years later.

“And as far as sharing dressing rooms go, it wasn't really like that, it's not palatial like it is now... it was just a little room that everybody sort of shared that we got ready in.”

"I'll be genuinely honest, I don't remember her being... it was such a long time ago. My show was totally separate from that show so there was no interaction to be honest."

Political differences may be behind the pair’s stand off as McVey makes her bid for Number 10.

McVey has voted against LGBT rights such as gay marriage in the Commons.

Kelly told Morgan she was “sick to the back teeth” with the “toxic political atmosphere”.

She also penned an article for The Sun saying "I abhor her stance on LGBT rights".

She said: “I strongly disagree with her on LGBT rights, I just thought, I've had enough of this.

“We've had two-and-a-half years of going round in circles and not sorting Brexit out.

"Now we've got a state in Britain where people are at each other's throats, and it's got to stop."
