The SunBelievable exhibit is at the BBC Gardeners’ World Live show in Birmingham this weekend. It will then be replanted at Hyde Hall in Chelmsford, Essex.

There are almost 100 of these new plant varieties in the SunBelievable display, which is more than double what were out at the whole of the Chelsea Flower Show.

Peter, 83, who has written a gardening column for The Sun for over four decades, said: “I think it’s probably the biggest floral display ever shown at a UK flower show.

“It’s over 30ft tall, it’s steep and it took three of us over two days to lay the thousands of flowers out.”

MARKED WITH SOMETHING SPECIAL

Flower lovers can enjoy the SunBelievable display at the NEC in Birmingham this weekend.

It is part of the annual BBC Gardeners’ World Live show at the Midlands exhibition centre and more than 100,000 people are expected to see Peter’s work.

Peter, who has been up at the NEC since Monday, said: “I felt The Sun celebrating 50 years should be marked with something special. No other paper could match us and that's the way The Sun has always been.”

The green fingered writer felt a great way to do that would be to put together more than 50 new blooms all in one display.

It is a unique coming together of all the UK’s most well-known seed brands

Peter Seabrook

Peter, along with his Sun team Steve and Val Bradley, selected varieties from across the globe.

He said: “The flowers have come from all over the world, Japan, Australia, America. We’ve been in touch with all those breeders, who have been immensely supportive.

“It is a unique coming together of all the UK’s most well-known seed brands and many international breeding companies.”

The new varieties in the pyramids include Begonia ‘SweetSpiceBounty’ from Britain, Petchoa‘BeautiCal’ from Japan and Leucanthemum‘Madonna’ from the United States.

BLOOMING MARVELLOUS

Peter hopes others will be inspired by the booming trade in ever changing blooms.

He said: “We wanted to show the world how fast our trade is changing. It’s really quite demanding to keep up with all these new varieties that are brought to market every year.

“Val and Steve and I grow these plants so we can make an independent assessment as to how good they are.”

The Gardeners World Live event, which started on Wednesday, also features TV gardening experts such as Alan Titchmarsh and Monty Don.

After the exhibition ends on Sunday afternoon Peter’s flowers will not be wasted.

The Sun will transport them to the Royal Horticultural Society gardens at Hyde Hall in Chelmsford, Essex.

There they will be replanted so they form part of the Floral Fantasia Area.
