KIM Jong-un has received a personal letter from Donald Trump, it was revealed last night - as he vowed to put "serious" thought into its content.

No precise details were given of the exact nature of the letter - but North Korean state news agency KCNA said Kim described it as "of excellent content."

President Trump says that he 'personally thinks lots of good things will come from North Korea'

The report added: "Kim Jong-un said that he would seriously contemplate the interesting content."

And The North Korean leader appreciated "the political judging faculty and extraordinary courage of President Trump" the agency said.

In an interview with TIME magazine last week, Trump said he also received a "birthday letter" from Kim that was delivered by hand a day before.

Their courteous exchange is a far cry from the leaders' war of words in 2017 - when it seemed the Korean peninsula was on the brink of all-out war.

FLOURISHING RELATIONSHIP

Pyongyang's provocative missile tests and development of a deadly nuclear arsenal led President Trump to dub Kim "Little Rocket Man".

Kim responded in kind - branding the president a "dotard".

White House officials did not comment on the letter last night.

But it will give fresh hope for stalled nuclear talks between the US and North Korea.

NUCLEAR TALKS

Washington has said it will only relax crippling economic sanctions against the country if it gives up its nukes and long-range missiles.

But North Korea has said it will only scrap its weapons after sanctions are lifted entirely.

A February summit between Trump and the North Korean leader in Hanoi, Vietnam, ended in failure.

A US official said on Wednesday the United States had no pre-conditions for new talks.

But progress will require meaningful and verifiable North Korean steps to abandon its nuclear weapons program, they added.

Trump is due to visit South Korea next week for meetings with South Korean President Moon Jae-in after taking part in the G20 meetings in Japan.

South Korea's presidential office said it sees the exchange of letters between Kim and Trump as a positive development for keeping the momentum for dialogue alive.
