Transport Secretary Chris Grayling accused of threatening truckers for speaking out about his No Deal plans

CHRIS Grayling has been accused of “trying to silence” haulage bosses with threats after they spoke out over his No Deal plans.

The truckers’ association claim the Transport Secretary left intimidating voicemail messages for their boss.

They claim the troubled Cabinet minister vowed to cut them out of his plans if they went public against him again.

On the message, obtained by a BBC Panorama programme on No Deal, Mr Grayling said: “I’ve got to say how very disappointed I am… I had intended to involve you closely in the planning over the next few months, but issuing a press release straight after meeting like that makes it much more difficult for me to do that”.

Road Haulage Association Chief Executive Richard Burnett said the Transport Secretary was “trying to silence an industry that’s trying to help government guide them”.

Mr Burnett added: “My sense of that message was - either shut up or you don’t engage. You either play ball with us or you won’t be part of the negotiations on behalf of the industry”.
