TV legend Johnny Ball accused of making Islamophobic comments after calling Islam ‘violent’
CHILDREN’S TV legend Johnny Ball was accused of making Islamophobic comments during a talk.
Ball, 81, was meant to be discussing the history of maths but caused some in the audience to walk out in disgust.
They claim the dad of Strictly spin-off host Zoe Ball called Islam “violent”.
Some also complained to the venue he challenged scientific opinion on climate change.
Olga Alexandru was one of those who walked out of the venue and tweeted her review of the talk. She wrote: “Have to break my no-social-media-on-Monday rule to talk about the s***show that was Johnny Ball at St George’s Bristol.
“Everything was going fine until he denied climate change and made Islamaphobic comments! We walked out. Disgusting!”
Bristol’s St George’s Hall said he had apologised for the climate section. It was investigating the Islam claims.
But 2012 Strictly contestant Ball denied them, saying: “What I actually said about Islam was that its origins were violent but that it became the most wondrous religion because it gave us back all the maths that had been lost to history.”
He said he included his climate change “denial” to counter “alarmism”.
