THE ex-wife of sex abuse fantasist Carl Beech has told of her agony at discovering the paedo's vile lies about a fake VIP child rape ring.
Nurse Dawn Beech said last night that she knew immediately her former husband was the mysterious "Nick" behind the monstrous allegations.
She added: "How can you accept someone you once thought you’d share the rest of your life with is this liar - this horrible person?"
Devious Beech, 51, lied to detectives about being abused by a murderous Westminster paedophile ring in the '70s and '80s.
But Beech was a paedophile himself - and the former nurse was this week convicted of 12 counts of perverting the course of justice and one of fraud.
In an interview with the after his 18-year sentence was handed down yesterday, mum-of-one Dawn said: "Part of me was hoping he’d get life so he’s completely out of my mine and my son’s life for ever.
"Then I think my poor son has lost his dad."
MONSTROUS FANTASY
Beech invented a string of malicious claims against high profile victims that ruined their reputations and left their families distressed.
They included 91-year-old Normandy veteran Field Marshal Lord Bramall, the late Lord Brittan, former PM Sir Ted Heath and ex-Tory MP Harvey Proctor.
His web of sordid lies sparked Scotland Yard's £2million Operation Midland investigation - and received backing from Labour deputy leader Tom Watson.
The monstrous false allegations first emerged in a BBC Panorama interview with Beech in 2015.
But while he was disguised by a silhouette and known only as "Nick" - his wife was able to recognise him right away.
'I WAS IN SHOCK'
Dawn, herself a nurse who met Carl when they were students in 1988, said: "I was in shock.
"I went to bed and had to go to work the next day.
"I’d taped it, so when I got home from work I watched it again, because you do start questioning yourself and thinking: ‘Maybe it isn’t Carl. Perhaps I’ve got this wrong.'
"But when I saw it again I knew it was him."
Dawn, who has a 15-year-old son with Beech, quizzed her ex-husband about the interview - but he denied any knowledge of it.
I’m terrified on so many levels - terrified of him, terrified he could imagine all that disgusting stuff and terrified about how this is going to affect my son
Dawn Beech
After his sickening tale unravelled Dawn went on to testify against her ex at his trial in Newcastle Crown Court.
Speaking from behind a screen, she told how she met Beech when they were both student nurses at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading.
They wed in 1992 and in 2002 they had their son - before divorcing in 2012.
Dawn told her ex's trial there were problems over "intimacy" and his personal hygiene.
Discussing her time in court, Dawn sobbed: "I’d have felt so intimidated.
"I’m terrified on so many levels - terrified of him, terrified he could imagine all that disgusting stuff and terrified about how this is going to affect my son."
TEEN SON COLLAPSED
Her son collapsed at their Gloucester home just two weeks after her court appearance - with docs unable to find a cause.
Dawn said of her boy: "I can’t stop worrying about him.
"When I heard on Monday Carl had been convicted on every charge, I left work to be with my son.
"When I told him he’d been found guilty and was going to prison for a long time, he just shook his head.
"I started crying and said: “I feel so sorry for you. Your dad’s going to be in prison.”
He’d been living with our son unsupervised for the past six years. They wouldn’t say what had happened
Dawn Beech
Dawn also feared Beech may have abused their son when he was living with him - with the pair having agreed joint custody when they split.
She first heard of the paedophilia charges against him was when a social worker called her at work in December 2016.
Cops dropped the VIP abuse investigation just nine months earlier - and attention turned to Beech himself.
Dawn explained: "I was told Carl was a potential risk to children and shouldn’t be with anyone under the age of 18 unsupervised.
"He’d been living with our son unsupervised for the past six years. They wouldn’t say what had happened."
Detectives later found indecent images of children on Beech's devices - and told Dawn he had tried to blame their son.

She added: "I said: 'What a b*****d.' I couldn’t believe he was trying to blame this on his own son.
"I felt so sick and shaky. I said: 'Oh my God, has he touched our son because if he has I might actually kill him?'
"The police completely assured me he hasn’t been touched."
