D-Day hero wrongly accused by fantasist Carl Beech says Met Police cops who led the probe are ‘worse’ than him
A D-DAY hero falsely smeared in the VIP sex-abuse scandal says cops who led the probe are worse than his accuser.
Field Marshal Lord Bramall said Met Police “perverted the course of justice more than” fantasist Carl Beech.
On Friday Beech, 51, was caged for 18 years for making up claims of a Westminster network of child abusers.
Lord Bramall, 95, said: “All [the Met] would tell me was that 40 years ago I had abused an underage male.
"They showed me a warrant and 20 policemen in overalls came in and searched the house for ten hours.”
His exoneration came too late for his wife Avril, who died in 2015.
Labour’s Tom Watson bought into the false claims and Lord Bramall said: “I think he thought there was an opportunity to say it was a Tory high-level ring.”
The Sun says
IT is heartbreaking to read what Lord Bramall went through after the Met fell hook, line and sinker for fantasist Carl Beech’s child abuse claims.
This man, who served in Normandy in World War II and was head of the Army during the Falklands War, is a national hero. The police acted disgracefully in pursuing clearly ludicrous claims.
But they did it because they were cheered on by politicians desperate to take swipes at “the establishment”. None more so than Labour Deputy Leader Tom Watson, who is still yet to apologise.
Speak up, Tom. Make sure they can hear you at the back.
