PROBE FURY

Police should face criminal investigation over bungled VIP child abuse probe, says ex-High Court judge

FURY erupted as police watchdogs rejected an ex-High Court judge’s call for cops to face criminal investigation over the bungled VIP child abuse probe.

Sir Richard Henriques said detectives misled a judge to get warrants to search the homes of establishment figures falsely accused of raping and murdering kids by fantasist Carl Beech, 51.

Sir Richard spoke after the Independent Office for Police Conduct last week announced officers on the Met’s flawed Operation Midland inquiry into Beech’s sick claims were all in the clear.

It insisted Sir Richard’s accusations amounted only to misconduct and were not criminal — and yesterday refused to budge on its stance.

Ex-Tory MP Harvey Proctor, 72, who revealed he lost "countless friends" after being falsely smeared by Beech, said it was a situation that "would see me lose my home, my job and my reputation — thanks to a treacherous miscarriage of justice".

He called for a full independent inquiry into Operation Midland.

Sir Richard insisted the warrants authorising swoops on Mr Proctor, Lord Bramall and Lord Brittan were obtained unlawfully. He said detectives failed to mention six inconsistencies undermining the credibility of Beech,

jailed for 18 years last week for perverting justice and downloading child porn.

New Home Secretary Priti Patel will haul in IOPC head Michael Lockwood to demand answers about the case, the Daily Mail reported.

The Sun Says

IT is scandalous that no one has paid any price for promoting the lies of paedophile fantasist Carl Beech.

Cops KNEW his claims were dodgy but illegally secured warrants to search Tory VIPs’ homes anyway, according to the judge who reviewed the disastrous Operation Midland. So why is there no criminal probe into their conduct, as Sir Richard Henriques has demanded?

Who ordered them to get a result from this flimsiest of “evidence”? Why is the failed, discredited ex-Met chief Bernard Hogan-Howe, whose fruitless investigations destroyed so many innocent people, now sitting pretty in the Lords?

Why is Labour’s loathsome Tom Watson, who abused Parliamentary privilege to spread baseless lies about Tory “paedophiles”, still an MP?

Some should be sacked in shame. Others should be in the dock.
