Labour’s John McDonnell claims Sajid Javid is unfit to be Chancellor and urges probe over his financial career
JOHN MCDONNELL sparked outrage by claiming former banker Sajid Javid was unfit to be Chancellor.
The hard left Labour MP has urged Downing Street to launch two investigations into Mr Javid’s conduct during his former career in the City.
He claimed that while a senior director at Deutsche Bank, Mr Javid had traded in a “particularly dangerous” type of debt that played a key role in the 2008 financial crash – and signed up for a tax avoidance scheme while earning an estimated £3m a year.
Shadow Chancellor Mr McDonnell claimed he has seen three pieces of evidence that “raise alarm bells” and “require explaining to the country at large”.
He said: “The Prime Minister ought to reconsider the fitness of Sajid Javid to serve as Chancellor of the Exchequer.”
But former Tory vice-chairman Michael Fabricant blasted: “Given that John McDonnell was sacked by Ken Livingstone for being too left wing, he’s a fine one to comment.
The Sun says
JOHN McDonnell has lost his mind if he thinks he of all people can accuse our new Chancellor of being unfit for office.
Ex-banker Sajid Javid knows more about finance than every Labour MP combined.
His opposite number McDonnell, meanwhile, is merely a sniggering thug who rooted for the IRA as they murdered our soldiers.
Who revels in hard-left violence and “jokes” about lynching or murdering Tory women. Who as a Trotskyite councillor was sacked for trying to set an illegal budget, but now wants voters to trust him to run the Treasury.
Masquerading as a statesman-in-waiting, McDonnell thinks he can pronounce on the Chancellor’s morality.
The public are wise to him.

“Sajid has worked in finance so at least he knows what he’s talking about.”
A Conservative spokesman added: “Labour might want to use their time better to think about their own credentials for governing. The only threat to the UK economy is them.”
A Whitehall source said it was “desperate stuff” from Labour.
