THE hate-filled Texan charged with slaughtering 22 people at a supermarket in El Paso told police he was targeting "Mexicans".

Patrick Crusius, 21, said "I'm the shooter" as he gave up to armed cops following the daylight massacre last Saturday, police documents revealed yesterday.

An arrest affidavit released on Friday said: "The defendant stated once inside the store he opened fire using his AK-47 shooting multiple innocent victims."

El Paso Detective Adrian Garcia added that Crusius said his targets were “Mexicans.”

Crusius pulled his car over at an intersection near the Walmart supermarket after the mass shooting and got out with his hands up when officers pulled up, the report said.

The account added that Crusius waived his right to an attorney and agreed to speak with police.

He told them he drove for 10 or 11 hours from his home in Allen, Texas, with an assault rifle and multiple magazines of ammunition.

Crusius is being investigated in connection with a sick online rant posted before the shooting that complained about the “Hispanic invasion of Texas.”

The alleged gun nut is accused of storming the busy Walmart in the heavily Hispanic border city as families did back-to-school shopping.

Authorities say he murdered 22 people in what appears to be a racist hate crime - and prosecutors are treating as domestic terrorism.

SHOOTINGS THAT ROCKED A NATION

It was the first of two harrowing mass murders that rocked the US in the space of just 12 hours.

Warped gun fanatic Connor Betts, 24, fatally gunned down nine people - including his own sister and best friend - 1,500 miles away in Dayton, Ohio.

He managed to fire off dozens of shots from his extended-mag assault rifle before being shot dead by hero cops just 30 seconds after his rampage began.
