MEGHAN Markle "stepped into a snake pit" by marrying Prince Harry - just as Princess Diana did, Richard Madeley has warned.

The 38-year-old former actress gave up her life in America to marry the 34-year-old prince, with the couple since welcoming baby Archie together.

But since joining the Royal Family, the Duchess of Sussex has faced criticism of "virtue signalling" and being "hypocritical" when a protection officer asked members of the public not to take photos of her at Wimbledon.

Hosting Good Morning Britain today, Richard Madeley said: "Isn't it extraordinary how the honeymoon with the public that Harry and Meghan had has faded so quickly.

"Pretty much in a year, it's gone.

"Personally, I feel a bit sorry for Meghan, I think she's stepped into a snake pit. Diana stepped into a snake pit.

"I think she's going to have to learn pretty sharpish how to play the odds down there because it's a rough old world in the royal family when you're that high profile."

But he said he believed the duchess was "learning" in her new position, adding: "It will get better for them."

Princess Diana had previously opened up about the pressures of being a member of the Royal Family, saying she had to "adapt" to her life.

And royal commentator Duncan Larcombe previously revealed the Queen had reportedly made an "unusual" effort in welcoming Meghan into the royal family, saying it could have possibly been "because of the lessons of the past where Princess Diana pretty much felt like an outsider in the royal family.”

Meanwhile, Diana's private secretary from 1988 to 1996, Patrick Jepson, previously told Yahoo's The Royal Box how Princess Diana had felt alienated from the royal family, particularly following her divorce.

He said: “Both from her own childhood and from her experience of marriage, she felt that she was an outsider, that she had been excluded.”

The GMB debate came after Nigel Farage this week branded Prince Harry as the "Prince of Wokeness" and said the Duke of Sussex had "fallen off a cliff" since meeting Meghan.

Speaking at the conference - where media members were banned - he said: “Here was Harry, here he was this young, brave, boisterous, all male, getting into trouble, turning up at stag parties inappropriately dressed, drinking too much and causing all sorts of mayhem.

“And then, a brave British officer who did his bit in Afghanistan. He was the most popular royal of a younger generation that we’ve seen for 100 years.

“And then he met Meghan Markle, and it’s fallen off a cliff."

He also lambasted Prince Harry's recent revelations he only wanted two children due to concerns around the environment.
