Shocking pics show toddlers living amidst mountains of rubbish at hoarder parents’ filthy rat-infested house

SHOCKING pictures reveal the squalid conditions two toddlers were forced to live in amidst mountains of rubbish in their hoarder parents’ filthy rat-infested home.

The young girls were rescued after they were found sleeping on top of and among piles of household refuse that their parents had compulsively hoarded.

NGO volunteers were undertaking a site visit of underprivileged families last week when they came across the "landfill-like" home.

The toddlers, aged two and one, were reportedly found sleeping on top of or among piles of household refuse that stretched from one corner of the sitting room to the other.

Their parents, who live off government subsidies, hoarded the rubbish and lived in the home among the waste and pests such as rats and cockroaches.

However, social welfare officials said the couple's actions did not constitute child abuse.

Wandan Township county social affairs department said that the family needed further assistance with raising their children, who the NGO says are experiencing development problems.

Pictures supplied by the not-for-profit Haiqing Youth Club of Pingtung County, which is in South Taiwan, show the desperate state of the couple's home in Wandan Township.

The county social affairs department was brought in for an assessment and signed off on over 30 volunteers who began cleaning the family home on August 22.

The job saw volunteers clear out enough bin bags to fill two lorries, with the refuse comprising mostly of empty takeaway boxes, plastic bags and drink bottles.

Officials are continuing to investigate the case and have placed full-time social workers with the couple instead of removing their children.
