South American football star Jonathan Fabbro jailed for 14 years for sexually abusing his niece when she was six
SOUTH American football star Jonathan Fabbro has been jailed for 14 years for sexually abusing his niece when she was six.
Although the victim’s mum said that “justice has been done”, she added that “there is no happiness, just peace and sadness” after the Paraguayan international footballer’s sentencing in Argentina.
A tribunal in the Argentinian capital Buenos Aires found Fabbro, 37, guilty of the aggravated sexual abuse of his niece, who is also his goddaughter.
The paedo was convicted of at least five counts of "severely outrageous sexual abuse" against his relative, between 2015 and 2017, reported .
He had denied all the charges.
News agency Reuters said that Fabbro has been detained at the Marcos Paz prison in capital since he was extradited from Mexico, where he was arrested at the end of 2017.
The former Boca Juniors and River Plate midfielder was jailed for pre-trial detention in the Ezeiza area of Buenos Aires in May last year.
Local media reported that the footballer was not present in the court during yesterday's sentencing.
Although the paedo had denied all the charges, Noticias Argentinas said he had admitted guilt regarding a second accusation, involving another child at his home in Asuncion, Paraguay's capital city.
After sentencing at the Criminal Court, the victim's family said they were mostly happy with the term handed down.
Her mum told reporters: "My daughter is very brave because she spoke up. I only want to go home and hug her. Everything is very painful."
But the girl's brother - who reported the abuse after discovering chat messages from Fabbro - slammed the pervert's sentencing as "unjust" because she will continue suffering for "a lifetime".
Fabbro's lawyer said they'll appeal the verdict.

He has been caged in a maximum-security prison.
She had previously said: "I have always been at his side since day one. Since the subject of the complaint occurred, we are much more united as a couple and as a family."
